What is the normal value of B nf?

Patient's question:

I went for an ultrasound today. One of the values inside me is NF, which is around 6. The doctor said that this is only slightly elevated and it's very likely that the baby might have a malformation. The value itself is normal. Could you please tell me what the normal range for BNF value is?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, this value should be less than 6 millimeters before the 24th week of pregnancy. If it is equal to or greater than 6 millimeters, the risk of chromosomal abnormalities increases tenfold. In your case, if it has increased significantly, it is best to undergo an amniocentesis or NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing) to assess the situation. This can provide some peace of mind. It may not necessarily be a problem, but further testing is still recommended.
