Patient's question:
I am on day 16 of my menstrual cycle, and there are large follicles. The doctor retrieved eggs for IVF. The doctor said the embryo is grade 2. Please ask, is a grade 1 embryo better, or is a grade 2 embryo better? Is a grade 2 embryo a high-quality embryo?Doctor's answer:
Around 48 hours after the egg retrieval surgery, the fertilized eggs typically divide into 4 to 6 cells. If you choose to transfer the embryo at this time, which is what we commonly refer to as the second day transfer, and the number of cells in the embryo falls within this range with no other signs of developmental issues, we will assign a score such as 1/4 to your embryo. This score indicates that the embryo was observed with 4 cells and showed good development, classifying it as a Grade 1 embryo. However, if some embryos exhibit poor adaptability to the external environment, showing minor fragmentation, vacuoles, or uneven size, we will appropriately lower the grade and assign a score such as 2/5.
