Patient's question:
The baby is almost 6 months old and is being fed with a combination of breast milk and complementary foods. My weight has now mostly returned to its pre-pregnancy level, so I'm a bit worried that the quality of my milk may have declined. How can I determine if the nutrition in my milk is still sufficient?Doctor's answer:
It's time to start adding complementary foods. The newly introduced foods must be very thin and soft. Generally, you can start with rice porridge, millet porridge, or mashed potatoes. Cook the rice or millet until it's very sticky, and first feed the baby the top layer of sticky porridge. After a few days, gradually introduce the rice grains underneath. After 1–2 weeks, you can add scrambled egg yolk. Start with 1/4 of a yolk, crush it, and mix it into the rice porridge to feed the baby. After a few days, increase to half a yolk, and gradually work your way up to a full yolk. Once the baby has adapted to rice porridge, millet porridge, mashed potatoes, and scrambled egg yolk, you can introduce vegetable puree.
