What are the conditions for a Cesarean section after a natural birth?

Patient's question:

I am 36 years old, female. Now my eldest child is already 8 years old, and I am currently planning to have a second child. What are the conditions required for a cesarean birth with the first child and a vaginal birth with the second?

Doctor's answer:

For first-time Cesarean section mothers who want to have a natural birth for their second child, the first step is to examine the healing condition of the uterine scar after Cesarean section. This is mainly carried out through MRI for detailed examination. The effectiveness of the examination can rule out the possibility of uterine rupture caused by poor scar healing. Under MRI, good uterine scar healing is characterized by the thickness of the lower anterior uterine wall being continuous, uniform, and without scars; while poor uterine scar healing is characterized by the thickness of the lower anterior uterine wall being less than 3 millimeters, with uneven and discontinuous echoes, and local scars.
After a first Cesarean section, the degree of muscularization of the uterine scar is in a relatively good state within 2 to 3 years. Therefore, it is recommended to try to conceive about 1.5 years after the first Cesarean section and give birth within 2 to 3 years.
