What is the meaning of tearing during childbirth?

Patient's question:

I am a woman, 32 years old this year. I have recently been considering having a child. Could you please explain what "childbirth tearing" means?

Doctor's answer:

If you give birth naturally, if the vaginal opening is small or the baby is slightly larger, it can easily cause an episiotomy (a tear of the perineum). The wound caused by the tear can be more troublesome and may even lead to more serious consequences. To prevent tearing during a natural birth, doctors will make a cut in the perineum first to artificially create an opening, which is called an episiotomy. This results in smaller wounds that are easier to heal. Nowadays, when giving birth naturally, an episiotomy is usually performed first to prevent tearing. Otherwise, if tearing does occur, it can be quite troublesome. A Cesarean section does not have this issue, but it involves making a cut on the abdomen.
