How to return to the original milk production after the supply and demand of milk are balanced?

Patient's question:

I am a breastfeeding mother. Recently, I came across the concept of supply and demand balance online. I currently have some milk engorgement and also want to achieve supply and demand balance. I wonder if milk engorgement will still occur after reaching supply and demand balance?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, infants reach a balance between supply and demand after eating for a period of time. This is the ideal state, where the baby does not usually drink milk, and there is no need to feed them. When the baby wants to eat, there is always an array of milk that looks like it won't be eaten, so there's no need for a bib when going out. If the price of milk rises, I think the supply and demand are still not perfectly balanced. I am three months old now, and basically, the supply and demand are balanced, but sometimes I still have some small issues and lumps. Sometimes my milk supply is not sufficient. But it doesn't matter; it doesn't affect me from continuing breastfeeding!
