Do adults directly suck breast milk?

Patient's question:

Just had a baby, and I have quite a bit of milk. My husband is also interested in trying it. I just wanted to ask if adults can directly suck breast milk?

Doctor's answer:

Sucking is one of the innate reflexes possessed by mammals and human infants. It is a type of unconditional reflex in newborns. When the nipple or finger touches the newborn's lips, corresponding sucking movements of the lips and tongue occur. Based on the described situation, the adult's inability to suck milk may be related to incorrect sucking posture. During sucking, the nipple should be enclosed, not bitten. In this case, it is recommended to use a breast pump to empty the breasts. It is advised not to worry and to drink more water.
