Patient's question:
We have been married for many years without having children. Now we are doing IVF in the hospital. How can we evaluate the grade of the embryo?Doctor's answer:
The grading of IVF embryos is actually based on the quality of the embryos. Typically, IVF embryos are divided into four grades: A, B, C, and D, which are one of the main factors affecting the success rate of IVF.Excellent embryos are the most ideal embryos in IVF procedures. These embryos have normally refracting blastomeres, uniform size, regular shape, intact zona pellucida, and less than 10% or no fragmentation. The cell cluster appears as a uniform, symmetrical spherical shape, with consistent size, color, and density of individual blastomeres (or cells). The developmental stage of the embryo matches the expected stage. Irregular cells are relatively few. The zona pellucida must be smooth and should not be or flat, as otherwise, it may cause the embryo to adhere to the culture dish or tube.
