Patient's question:
Doctor, my partner and I have been married for many years without having children. We are undergoing IVF treatment. Could you please explain what an 0pn embryo means?Doctor's answer:
Human fertilization is a series of complex processes. After the sperm enters the egg, the head of the sperm disassembles to form the male pronucleus, while the egg is activated and undergoes a series of transformations to form the female pronucleus. The formation of the female pronucleus is generally synchronous. The male and female pronuclei, known as 2PN, can be observed as early as 6 hours after fertilization and as late as 20 hours. Subsequently, the male and female pronuclei move closer, fuse, and disappear, completing fertilization. Therefore, the observation of two pronuclei indicates successful fertilization, and the fusion of the male and female pronuclei is the mark of fertilization completion.
