Patient's question:
I am 24 weeks pregnant and have been taking a lot of supplements every day to regulate my body. Today, during my hospital check-up, I was told that at 24 weeks pregnant, the placenta is only at level 1. My parents said this is a problem. Is it normal for the placenta to be at level 1 at 24 weeks of pregnancy?Doctor's answer:
At 24 weeks of pregnancy, I went to the hospital for a prenatal check-up and found that the placenta was classified as Grade 1, which is perfectly normal. This means that your placenta is functioning very well at this stage, allowing sufficient water and nutrients to be transferred from your body to the baby, and also enabling the removal of carbon dioxide and waste from the baby's body into yours. Towards the end of pregnancy, the placenta can mature to Grade 3, at which point its function may start to decline. The baby is also generally considered mature and ready to be born.
