Patient's question:
Can breast milk that has been warmed by a breast pump be reheated and consumed later if it wasn't finished in one go? Can breast milk expressed at different time intervals be stored in the same bottle? Can breast milk stored in the refrigerator be heated directly to around 40 degrees Celsius and then consumed?Doctor's answer:
The expressed milk should be placed in a cool place. If you don't have a refrigerator, you can use a thermos or an insulated box. If you use a thermos, you can put ice cubes in the bottle in the morning to cool it down. Then, remove the ice cubes and add the milk. If you use an insulated box, you can place some ice cubes at the bottom and then put the container filled with milk on top. Milk can be stored at room temperature, with colostrum lasting 12-24 hours and mature milk lasting 6-10 hours. Milk stored in the refrigerator can last for 5 days. Although breast milk is less susceptible to bacterial growth compared to other types of milk, it is still recommended to use clean bottles, nipples, cups, and spoons.
