Patient's question:
Can you get pain relief injections at the hospital if you have menstrual cramps? Which department should you go to? Is it injected into the buttocks or the arm? How many minutes does it take to relieve the pain after getting the injection?Doctor's answer:
Primary dysmenorrhea is usually caused by an increase in prostaglandin secretion during menstruation, or by retroverted uterus leading to poor drainage of menstrual blood, resulting in dysmenorrhea symptoms. Secondary dysmenorrhea is typically caused by endometriosis leading to chocolate cysts in the ovaries, or by adenomyosis. Therefore, for women experiencing dysmenorrhea, we usually recommend checking a pelvic ultrasound at the hospital to rule out organic lesions in the uterus and adnexa, and then provide symptomatic pain relief treatment based on the results.
