Features: This book is a textbook for public courses on computer networks in higher education institutions. It belongs to the second level among the three tiers of computer fundamental education in universities (cultural foundation, technical foundation, application foundation). It can also be used by management and technical personnel for self-study on network applications and basic knowledge. The book is divided into an introduction and three parts—Part One (Internet Applications), Part Two (Web Design and Publishing), and Part Three (Network Fundamentals)—comprising a total of 12 chapters. Part One includes six chapters: Introduction to the Internet, Accessing the Internet, the World Wide Web and Engines, Electronic Mail, E-commerce, and Other Internet Applications. Part Two consists of two chapters: Web Development Software and Page Coding and Site Publishing. Part Three includes three chapters: Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks and Metropolitan Area Networks, and Corporate Intranets. The appendix lists "Lab Exercises" for each chapter, which can be referenced when arranging practical sessions. In accordance with the principle of "focusing on application while integrating fundamentals, balancing innovation and stability, and facilitating teaching," this book adopts a three-stage structure: "Network Applications—Web Development—Fundamental Knowledge." The content of each part is interconnected yet relatively independent. Teachers can flexibly select one, two, or all three parts to form the required course. The book has a low starting point, and readers with experience in using Office software and programming can easily understand it.
