Patient's question:
I am a 83-year-old woman who has been feeling quite tired lately. I have noticed some signs of poor health, and I wonder if it could be this condition. Could you please tell me: Is surgery required for cervical erosion of degree three?Doctor's answer:
No surgery is required. Cervical erosion is not a disease; it is a physiological change, also known as cervical columnar epithelial metaplasia. You only need to have cervical cytology TCT tests done periodically. "Cervical erosion" is not true erosion; it only appears to be so visually. Under careful observation with a colposcope, the erosion surface is actually intact columnar epithelium. Since columnar epithelium is single-layered, the underlying stroma appears red, giving the impression of red erosion-like tissue when viewed with the naked eye. They are originally located at the cervical os and are not visible from the outside, but due to the long-term effect of estrogen levels in the body.
