Patient's question:
I am a 69-year-old woman with poor mental state. I feel sick. After checking, it was determined to be a certain illness. Please ask: What are the possible causes of pelvic effusion?Doctor's answer:
Pelvic effusion, under normal physiological conditions, such as menopause or menstruation, may have minimal amounts of pelvic effusion. In such cases, the pelvic effusion, sometimes detected by ultrasound as one or two millimeters, or two or three millimeters, does not require attention. This is a normal fluctuation. However, if you have pelvic inflammation, such as pelvic inflammatory disease, there may be a small amount of effusion. Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease can also lead to effusion. We monitor the situation when the fluid is excessive. When the fluid is excessive, it may be the opposite of what one might expect. In this case, we do not refer to it as effusion but rather as ascites.
