Is an increase in leukorrhea after pregnancy a normal condition?

Patient's question:

I am 34 years old and have noticed that my vaginal discharge has been abnormal recently. The color, odor, and amount are all different from before. What could be the reason? Please ask: Is it normal for vaginal discharge to increase after pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

After pregnancy, estrogen levels in the body continue to increase with the progression of early pregnancy. Estrogen has the effect of accelerating the secretion of cervical glandular cells and endometrial glandular cells, enhancing the amount of vaginal mucus. Therefore, leukorrhea may be slightly more than before, appearing milky white, odorless, and egg white-like. This is a normal phenomenon. If the color, amount, and quality of leukorrhea change abnormally again, it is called abnormal leukorrhea. If abnormal leukorrhea reappears, the most likely causes are trichomoniasis vaginitis and candidiasis vaginitis. It is recommended to check leukorrhea routine tests and treat accordingly.
