Editor Wu Jingjin and some editorial committee members have always been concerned with the issue of social security reform. Under their guidance, the editorial team of Comparison has collected and compiled recent materials on pension system reforms from transition countries, presenting this overview of Kazakhstan's reforms to the readers. In recent years, social security system reforms worldwide have been repeatedly placed on the agenda. The principles that the design of reform proposals should follow, how to make a country's social security system adapt to the requirements of socio-economic progress and promote social and economic development, and how to reform to establish a fair, incentive-based, and sustainable pension system have always been a key concern. The reason Kazakhstan's pension reform has attracted attention is that, on the basis of a nearly collapsed pension system, in a generally unfavorable macro and microeconomic environment, and within such a short period, it has achieved remarkable accomplishments.
