Patient's question:
A 61-year-old woman has been feeling quite tired recently and has noticed that her body is not feeling healthy. Could it be that she has this disease? Please ask: How is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) acquired?Doctor's answer:
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine and catabolic disorder-induced disease, a common gynecological disease among women of reproductive age. It is characterized by chronic anovulation (menopausal dysfunction or loss) and hyperandrogenemia (excess production of male hormones in women), with main clinical manifestations including irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, hirsutism and/or acne. It is the most common endocrine disorder in women. The exact cause of PCOS is unknown, and it is currently believed that the ovaries produce excessive androgens, while the excessive production of androgens is the result of synergistic actions of abnormal functions of multiple different endocrine systems in the body.
