Features: This book specifically analyzes a peculiar new phenomenon in the contemporary world—on one hand, socialist countries led by the Communist Party constantly face setbacks and issues, while on the other hand, more and more parties and groups claiming to follow socialism emerge. Why, in the new post-war era of thriving capitalism, does world socialism still become a global force? How many schools and factions of contemporary world socialism are there? What kinds of socialism do each of them advocate and practice? What problems arise in the development of socialism? Why did the Soviet Union and the eight Eastern European countries, as well as Mongolia, experience drastic political changes? What are the key lessons learned from these events? How can such upheavals be prevented from occurring in other socialist countries? How should China draw lessons from the historical successes and failures of other socialist states to build socialism with Chinese characteristics? After the upheavals in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, what changes have taken place in the four socialist countries—North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba? How have the socialist thoughts and factions in developed capitalist countries and developing countries evolved? How will the two systems—world socialism and world capitalism—develop in the future? In the face of the rapid advancement of the new technological revolution worldwide, what is the future prospect of world socialism? All these intriguing and urgently needed-to-know new situations and questions can be scientifically answered in this book.
