Can you have an abortion at three months pregnant?

Patient's question:

I am a 27-year-old woman. My husband and I started trying to conceive right after getting married, and now I am pregnant. However, I am very worried. Can I still have a miscarriage at three months pregnant?

Doctor's answer:

It is more appropriate to have an induced abortion within the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. The earlier the procedure is performed using the visual painless abortion technique, the simpler and safer it is. Conversely, the surgery becomes more complex, and the postoperative recovery time is longer.
The commonly used early induced abortion procedures include Kael Visual Painless Abortion and Painless Curettage. Visual painless abortion is suitable for women with early pregnancy within 10 weeks, while the latter is suitable for women with early pregnancy between 10 and 14 weeks.
At less than 10 weeks of early pregnancy, the uterus is not too large; the fetus and placenta have not yet formed, so there is generally no need to dilate the cervix. It is easy to remove the fetal tissue. The procedure involves minimal discomfort, less tearing, a shorter operation time, and postoperative rest of 1-2 hours is sufficient to go home. Recovery is also quick, with minimal impact on the body.
