Patient's question:
Female, 42 years old, my menstrual cycle has always been quite irregular. I never took it seriously before, but recently I've noticed an increase in leukorrhea with a foul odor. I went to the hospital for a check-up, and they said it's cervical erosion. Do second to third-degree cervical erosion require surgical treatment?Doctor's answer:
Because physical therapy can cause cervical fibrosis, reduced elasticity, and affect cervical softening and dilation during labor, it is not recommended to have surgery if you are planning to conceive a second child. The loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) is primarily used for treating CIN2. Simple cervical erosion does not require LEEP surgery. For example, if TCT and HPV tests are normal, follow-up tests should be conducted every 2-3 years. If there are abnormal results, the specific treatment plan should be determined based on the findings. If TCT is normal but there is mild erosion, the risk of cervical cancer is very low. Don’t worry, it’s nothing to be concerned about. Just have another thorough check-up.
