Do you need surgery for cervical erosion that is not moderate?

Patient's question:

Female, 39 years old, my menstrual cycle has always been irregular. I never took it seriously before. Recently, I feel that my leukorrhea has been continuously increasing, and there is also a foul odor. I went to the hospital for a check-up and was told it was cervical erosion. Do I need surgery for cervical erosion that is not moderate?

Doctor's answer:

Your cervical erosion needs to be assessed through TCT and HPV tests to determine if they are negative. If both tests are negative, it may be considered pseudoerosion, which is a physiological phenomenon and does not require treatment. Otherwise, if there is intraepithelial neoplasia, treatment is necessary. HPV is a cause of cervical cancer, while TCT reflects the condition of cervical diseases—it does not mean that having the cause will inevitably lead to the outcome. Therefore, if it is merely cervical inflammation, topical suppositories or Aequasol suppositories can be used. Regular follow-up as scheduled is sufficient.
