What are the symptoms of ovarian cysts?

Patient's question:

I am 60 years old this year, and I am currently experiencing vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain. Please ask: what are the symptoms of an ovarian cyst?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, ovarian cysts do not have obvious symptoms. An ovarian cyst refers to a cystic tissue structure that occurs internally in the ovary, filled with liquid or semi-liquid material and possessing a thin wall. In clinical practice, if the ovarian cyst is less than 5 cm and tumor markers (CA-125, AFP, CEA, and β-hCG) are normal, it is considered a functional ovarian cyst, and no treatment is necessary for the time being! Functional ovarian cysts include follicular cysts, corpus luteum cysts, and some hemorrhagic cysts (which occur due to the rupture of small blood vessels in the cyst wall, leading to the presence of blood material inside the cyst). These are benign changes that occur in women of reproductive age and are a physiological change associated with menopause, hence they are also known as physiological cysts of the ovary.
