What is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)?

Patient's question:

A 58-year-old woman knows she has discomfort in her body, but she hasn't gone to see a doctor. She asks: Could it be polycystic ovary syndrome?

Doctor's answer:

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a multi-causal endocrine disorder with a variety of clinical diagnostic symptoms. It has a syndrome called infertility, menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, and even infertility, obesity, hirsutism, and acanthosis nigricans. The incidence of this condition has been increasing significantly year by year, due to our current dietary structure being disrupted, with high levels of hormones in meat products, the extensive use of pesticides and hormones, and the fast-paced lifestyle of modern people, as well as frequent (late-night habits). Therefore, the incidence is declining year by year.
