Violin Teaching 160 Questions

Author: Sheng Zhenhua
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-05-01
Features: This is a pertinent discussion on violin performance by someone who understands the principles of art learning. Some of the unique insights in the book accurately address the issues in teaching practice. I believe this book will offer inspiration to violin students, parents, and teachers. The book covers nine aspects: (practicing skillfully), (left-hand techniques), (right-hand techniques), (musical expression), (teachers and students), (the path to success), (preparation before performing), (stage experience), and (afterthoughts). Although the content of the book is quite extensive, some parts may not be detailed enough in the narrative. This is partly due to limited time and energy, and partly because I don’t prefer reading thick books. Many people may feel the same way, so I decided to keep the book concise. I used minimal musical examples because some issues can be inferred by the reader, and it’s not necessary for the author to elaborate with a multitude of examples when extending a point.
Verbose and overly detailed, lengthy—perhaps not everyone enjoys these qualities. I hope this book will be of some help to violin learners, and even more so, that it serves as a timely support for those brave souls determined to conquer the violin.
