To create, play, and sing music correctly, one must understand music theory. Therefore, the purpose of teaching music theory is to prepare for composing or performing music. Since music is composed of many diverse elements, music theory is divided into several parts (subjects): Basic Theory, Harmony, Counterpoint, Instrumentation, and Form Analysis. Basic Theory is the elementary grammar of music, which should teach students systematic knowledge about many crucial musical elements. Basic Theory, like all music theory in the Soviet Union, is based on the principles formed in folk music and classical realistic music.
