The story takes place in Qingyang, telling of the power struggles within the Northern Jiu Zhou nomadic tribes, as well as the enmity between Qingyang and the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. The heir apparent of Qingyang, Lü Gui Chen, was sent to live with the Yan Zhen tribe in his youth. Later, when the Yan Zhen tribe rebelled, Lü Gui Chen was brought back to the Northern Capital. However, his older brothers did not take this young and frail heir seriously, merely competing with each other for the right to inherit the throne. Yet, after being tempered by war and the hardships of life, Lü Gui Chen transformed from his once gentle and weak nature, gradually maturing and growing stronger amidst his brothers' power struggles. At the time, the Da Yin royal family of Eastern Zhou was declining, with several feudal states rising in power. The Great Lord of Qingyang sought to expand his influence over Eastern Zhou by allying with the State of Xia Tang. As a result, Lü Gui Chen was sent as a hostage to Xia Tang. This is the story of the young Zhao Wu Gong and the young Yu Lie Wang of the future Da Xie Dynasty.
