Features: Monte Carlo in Monaco, located on the Mediterranean coast, is world-famous for its beautiful scenery and the Casino de Monte-Carlo. Monte Carlo is based on real events, showcasing the rise and fall of the Monte Carlo Casino from its founding in 1866 to the mid-20th century. The novel follows the love story between Fran?ois Blanc, the founder of the casino, and Marie Hensehel, the daughter of a shoemaker, as a thread. It narrates the story of these two lovers with a significant age gap, from their meeting and falling in love to their joint development of the business. Blanc had been running a gambling business in France but, due to gambling bans in France, moved to K?nigsberg, Germany, to operate an Eastern-style casino. The daughter of a shoemaker in the nearby town, Marie, came to his household at the age of fifteen as a maid. The two struck up an instant connection and fell in love, eventually becoming husband and wife. The outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War damaged the casino's business, and Blanc decided to transfer his assets. At Marie's suggestion, Blanc purchased the struggling casino in Monaco in 1862. After four years of renovation, the casino reopened with a new name: Monte Carlo. After Blanc's death, Marie took over the operation alone. Over the decades of dedicated effort, the Monte Carlo Casino became one of Europe's most famous playgrounds for gamblers, and "Monte Carlo" almost became synonymous with the casino. The author of this book is a renowned German journalist who has lived in Monte Carlo for over twenty years. In the book, he incorporates many famous anecdotes, some documented and others passed down orally, making the book both authentic and highly readable.
