The first part collects 18 articles by Marx and Engels on China, except for one published in the Neue Presse in Vienna, Austria, all of which were published in the New York Daily Tribune in the United States. These articles were written from the mid-1850s to the early 1860s. Marx and Engels were deeply concerned about the struggle of the Chinese people and expressed sincere sympathy for it. The second part is excerpts, which collects statements on China scattered in various works and letters by Marx and Engels from the 1840s to the 1890s. The materials in this section cover a wide range of topics, including the impact of world trade development on the Chinese economy, the Opium Wars, and peasant uprisings in China, which supplement the content of the first part of the articles. The excerpts also discuss the role of inventions such as gunpowder and printing in China, and so on. For the convenience of readers, these excerpts are categorized by main content and titled.
