Features: After this book has been published for seven years, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) have changed over the past seven years, and so has the prevention and control of STDs. Since the author reported that NGU (Non-Gonococcal Urethritis) has been the leading cause of illness at the Guangzhou General Hospital of the Guangzhou Command of the Guangzhou Military Region since 1990, it has been reported that NGU has been the leading cause of illness in Guangzhou City and other provinces and autonomous regions such as Guangxi, Tianjin, and Hainan since 1996. In recent years, the number of STDs nationwide has been increasing, but the most significant increase has been in syphilis, with its rapid growth and severe harm being unprecedented. What is even more alarming is the rapid spread of AIDS. It is estimated that the harm caused by these STDs will be even more shocking in the coming years. The increase in STDs and their harm is terrible, but what is even more terrible is the chaos in diagnosis and treatment. This chaos includes the establishment of unauthorized clinics or so-called "STD centers," as well as media promotions by some low-technology units or private clinics that pursue economic interests and make unrealistic or unscientific claims. It also includes irresponsible diagnosis and treatment by some physicians. More importantly, the diagnostic and treatment skills of our grassroots physicians are not high. This will greatly affect the prevention and control of STDs in our country, leading to even greater and more severe harm. Experts nationwide share the same sense of concern about this. To do a good job in the prevention and control of STDs, in addition to legal regulation, improving the diagnostic and treatment skills of physicians, especially grassroots physicians, has become an urgent priority. To adapt to the needs of STD prevention and control and keep pace with the times, this book has been republished and the title has been changed to "Color Atlas of Modern Sexually Transmitted Disease Diagnosis and Treatment." This edition is the 2004 version, and we aim to republish it every two years thereafter. This edition focuses on the leading cause of gonorrhea, the rapidly increasing syphilis, the difficult-to-diagnose NGU, the recurrent genital herpes, and the genital warts. At the same time, a chapter on "Differential Diagnosis of Genital Ulcers" has been added. Based on my and my colleagues' experiences in diagnosing and treating STDs, this book combines diagrams and text to emphasize the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of each disease, striving to improve the diagnostic and preventive skills of grassroots physicians in treating STDs. Even if it reduces some diagnostic and treatment errors and contributes to addressing the aforementioned "chaotic" state, it will be considered a small contribution to the prevention and control of STDs in our country.
