He excelled academically during his time at the University of Wisconsin and began traveling around the country by working odd jobs. Starting in 1874, a series of works about the Nevada mountains launched Muir's writing career. Over the years, he published and wrote a total of 300 articles and 10 significant books, primarily on natural philosophy and travel records. He also worked tirelessly with friends to advocate for the establishment of Yosemite and the Grand Canyon National Parks, earning him the title of "Father of the National Parks." In 1892, Muir founded the Sierra Club, and until his death in 1914, he and his fellow members continued their relentless fight for nature conservation.
