Features: The Full-Time Secondary School English Teaching Syllabus points out that listening, speaking, reading, and writing should be comprehensively trained in English teaching. While further improving listening and speaking skills, emphasis should be placed on cultivating reading comprehension abilities. With advanced concepts, it fully applies the research findings of modern linguistics and pedagogy, catering to the cognitive characteristics of students of various grades and age groups. It is focused and targeted, achieving a revolutionary breakthrough in traditional reading materials. The positioning is scientific. This book is not designed for reading just for the sake of reading, but aims to improve students' comprehensive English proficiency through reading comprehension. It examines students' mastery of basic knowledge such as vocabulary and grammar, while also cultivating their analytical, inductive, and logical thinking abilities. The content is rich. This series is scientifically and comprehensively categorized, with diverse section settings, which helps to cultivate students' solid knowledge base and broaden their humanities perspective, enabling them to accumulate and excel in exams. Led by renowned educator Zhang Guangluo, a full-time senior teacher from the Haidian District Education Bureau of Beijing, this series is authoritative. For junior high school students, English is a very important subject. In English exams, reading comprehension is one of the main question types, accounting for about 40% of the exam paper, and the trend is increasing. The Full-Time Secondary School English Teaching Syllabus states that "to improve students' English reading ability, relying solely on textbook passages is far from enough. It is necessary to systematically guide students to read a certain number of supplementary materials according to their grade level and specific circumstances." The recently issued New Curriculum Standards have also made clear provisions on reading content in English teaching: junior high school students should read appropriate supplementary materials after mastering textbook knowledge, while the content must be healthy, ( -), diverse in themes and genres, with varying article structures. Emphasis is placed on the content having strong ideological, interesting, knowledge-based, cultural, challenging, and contemporary characteristics. One of the purposes of this is to encourage students to expand their thinking, broaden their horizons, and cultivate innovative and practical abilities, ultimately improving their language skills and laying a solid foundation for transitioning to quality-oriented education. To better adapt to this transformation and help students master and accumulate more language knowledge, improve their reading comprehension level, and further cultivate their innovative and practical abilities, we have organized first-line English teachers with years of rich teaching experience to meticulously compile the "Categorized English Reading" series for junior high school, guided by the spirit of the Full-Time Secondary School English Teaching Syllabus and the New Curriculum Standards. The guiding principles for the first and second grades fully reflect the cultivation of basic knowledge and skills, while the third grade, while emphasizing the basics, appropriately aligns with the junior high school entrance examination. For students taking the junior high school entrance examination, this book is not only a reading resource but also a tutoring book for preparing for the exam. By reading this book, readers can achieve twice the result with half the effort. The "Categorized English Reading" junior high series has the following features: 1. Appropriate length. With limited vocabulary and knowledge, reading materials of appropriate length can not only cultivate students' reading skills but also foster their interest in reading. 2. Graded reading. Each reading material has a different difficulty level, generally increasing progressively, and continuously expands students' knowledge and improves their reading skills in a step-by-step manner. 3. Diverse themes. Reading materials include not only introductions to characters, humorous stories, social culture, scientific knowledge, daily life, and historical and cultural knowledge but also fables, human geography, and other topics. 4. Authenticity. Most reading materials are adapted from original foreign articles to meet the reading requirements of Chinese junior high school students, helping them better understand and grasp the content. 5. Strong timeliness. Reading materials track contemporary characteristics and align with the interests and needs of today's junior high school students, maintaining a feature of staying in sync with the times. Of course, despite our efforts to meet reader requirements, this series has certain shortcomings. We sincerely hope that teachers and students will provide valuable feedback.
