Features: Phonetic notation based on Hanyu Pinyin, enabling you to quickly master practical and concise everyday expressions. Multiple expressions for practical sentences make them easy to use appropriately. Example sentences are categorized by occasion and function, making them easy to find. Engaging background introductions help you understand the rich cultural diversity of many countries. The accompanying audio tapes, meticulously recorded by German experts, feature clear and authentic pronunciation, facilitating learning and imitation. Even if your Chinese friend doesn’t speak a word of German and your German friend doesn’t understand a word of Chinese, no problem—this book alone can help achieve mutual communication! This book is divided into three sections.
Common Sentences: This book is divided into 23 chapters based on different life scenarios. Each scenario lists the essential sentences and typical sentence patterns. Each sentence is phonetically annotated. The annotation primarily uses Pinyin pronunciation, with special symbols marked for some sounds that cannot be found in Hanyu Pinyin. These special symbols are marked with in the phonetic reference table. If you can read Pinyin, you can easily speak German. Sometimes, incorrect emphasis or intonation may make it sound awkward, but if you speak slowly, you can still convey your meaning. The accompanying audio tapes can also help you improve. Many sentences can be used as standard models for vocabulary substitution or for creatively constructing new sentences, with grammar mistakes not mattering. What you need is just a little courage and creativity!
Vocabulary: The vocabulary list helps you quickly find alternative words. You can also use the listed important verbs to construct new sentences. In addition to vocabulary used in spoken language, each scenario often includes words that people encounter while reading but must understand, such as train schedules. I have carefully selected the most important ones for inclusion.
Cultural Knowledge: Basic cultural knowledge can help newcomers quickly adapt to their environment, reduce mistakes caused by ignorance, minimize misunderstandings in social interactions, and avoid unnecessary detours. Germany and China belong to different cultural spheres, with significant differences in lifestyles, values, and customs. Without basic awareness, you might find everything difficult, experience strong feelings of strangeness, and feel lost—we can call this phenomenon “culture shock” (Kulturschock). The cultural knowledge selected in this book introduces basic aspects of German life, customs, and many chapters carry more of a guiding nature. Key terms are accompanied by their German equivalents, avoiding the need for searching and allowing for immediate application.
