Kafka is one of the founders of the 20th-century literary trend "Modern Literature" and a master of modernism. His works, with their seemingly absurd language and thought processes, have transformed traditional literary concepts. Through "absurd" metaphors, he expresses philosophical reflections: a rejection of existing values and an anxiety about the living conditions of modern humanity. In the late 1970s, with the opening of China's doors and the tide of ideological liberation, Kafka's works—born from the depths of his soul at the cost of his life—resonated with their foresight and profound impact, winning the admiration of an ever-growing readership. People were amazed by his "literary style" and even more impressed by his "personal integrity." This collection of short stories, despite its limited length, remains the most comprehensive version published in China to date. The book includes most of Kafka's works, allowing readers not only to appreciate the beautiful and striking prose but also to vividly recreate early 20th-century European society through the author's descriptions.
