The printed pages of this book consist of three flashcards, printed on both sides. The cards are separated by dotted lines, allowing readers to divide and organize them by number. Each card’s front side displays 6 words with phonetic transcriptions and an example sentence, while the back includes part of speech, Chinese and English definitions, synonyms, antonyms, derivatives, and related vocabulary hints, as well as topic predictions. Readers can recall the meaning of the words based on the English text and example sentence. If they struggle, they can flip to the back for help. This book covers 5,762 vocabulary words for CET-1 to CET-6 and pre-university level, totaling 955 cards. The middle school-level vocabulary should be familiar to readers after years of repeated use, allowing them to breeze through it when preparing for CET-6. The vocabulary for CET-1 to CET-4 includes approximately 4,500 words, which readers should have mastered after the CET-4 exam. For more complex or easily confused words, additional reinforcement is needed.
Each card’s front side includes vocabulary, pronunciation, and an example sentence. The vocabulary is fully aligned with the annotations in the Vocabulary List for College English Teaching Syllabus, ensuring readers are exposed to multiple pronunciations and avoid disadvantages in listening exams. The example sentences are either from (advanced-level exam questions) or classic English literature, with some adapted by the editors. The sentences illustrate the word’s usage. The editors believe that the example sentences on the front provide readers with basic usage information.
Additionally, many CET-6 vocabulary books include comparative analyses of synonyms, but these are often explained in Chinese. Based on years of teaching experience, the editors found that Chinese explanations of English synonyms frequently fail to accurately convey the fundamental distinctions between words. Even after detailed explanations, readers may feel overwhelmed or develop biased impressions. Instead, this book references authoritative British and American dictionaries, compiles English definitions, and provides comparative analyses in English. Readers can then memorize the synonyms, antonyms, and derivatives of each word based on these explanations.
