Features: This book is part of the "Final Sprint: Simulation Training" series, designed for candidates' final practice. While systematically reviewing and consolidating fundamental knowledge and skills in college English, it provides users with highly practical analysis and solutions for various test types, targeting the format and content of the CET-4 standardized tests. The aim is to enhance candidates' actual exam-taking abilities.
The book selects and combines eight authentic college English CET-4 simulation tests from authoritative publications and materials published domestically and internationally in recent years. These tests are of high quality, reliability, and broad knowledge coverage, with representative testing points. Additionally, the appendix includes the full original tests from the June 2000 and June 2001 national CET-4 exams, arranged with one set of solutions for each test to facilitate comparative practice.
In terms of question types, in addition to traditional sections like Listening Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and Structure, Cloze, and Writing, the book also includes newly added types such as Compound Dictation, Short Answer Questions, and Translation, allowing candidates to practice with real-world scenarios.
The solutions to all simulation tests are arranged in corresponding order. Each section not only provides correct answers but also highlights key testing points and analytical methods for problem-solving, serving as a reference for candidates. The Listening Comprehension solutions offer practical tips on accurately understanding direct expressions, identifying key words or details, making inferences based on given information, and summarizing the main idea of passages.
The Reading Comprehension section provides comprehensive guidance on six aspects (excluding questions that require minimal skill-based assistance). These aspects are:
(1) Question Content (i.e., the meaning of each question);
(2) Assessment Focus (i.e., the skills tested by each question);
(3) Option Interpretation (i.e., the meaning of each of the four choices);
(4) Skill Tips (i.e., the correct approach or skill-based methods for solving each question).
Through this guidance, it is hoped that candidates' reading comprehension abilities will improve significantly.
The Vocabulary and Structure section covers a wide range of topics, including all content assessed in past CET-4 exams. The solutions focus on areas where candidates often struggle, such as word meaning differentiation, collocations, verb phrase distinctions, prepositional phrase distinctions, non-finite verb usage, recognizing complex objects, identifying absolute constructions, inverted word order, common sentence patterns, and subjunctive mood. This helps candidates strengthen their discriminative and exam-taking skills in these areas.
The Cloze section emphasizes logical connections between sentences while focusing on word meaning differentiation, such as verb and adjective usage, prepositional phrase distinctions, fixed phrase usage, pronoun and adverb usage, etc. This helps candidates improve their weak areas and adaptability.
Writing has always been a weak point for many candidates. The book provides specific guidance on topic review, determining the central idea, and organizing paragraph structure. Reference model answers are also provided to help candidates understand how to write according to outlines, organize materials around the theme, and ensure each paragraph reflects the main idea from different perspectives.
The chief editor, Zhou Jianping, is responsible for the overall design and the selection of materials and solutions for Reading Comprehension and Writing in each test. The associate editor, Jiang Yongguo, oversees the selection of materials and solutions for Listening Comprehension, Vocabulary and Structure, and Cloze. Professor Lu Bo from China Pharmaceutical University participated in writing the solutions for six passages in the Reading Comprehension section. We sincerely thank her for her contribution.
Due to the tight schedule and extensive workload, along with limited expertise, errors and omissions are inevitable. We kindly request feedback from fellow experts and readers.
The entire series is divided into "Foundation Building" and "Final Sprint" volumes, comprising five books. The "Foundation Building" series consists of four books: Listening and Speaking, Vocabulary·Grammar·Cloze, Reading Comprehension, and Writing, which systematically explain various question types and language fundamentals of the CET-4 exam, offering analytical methods related to problem-solving through examples and exercises. The "Final Sprint" volume focuses on question trends and comprehensive problem-solving techniques, emphasizing practical drills.
