Features: College English is a series of teaching materials developed based on the Teaching Syllabus for College English (Undergraduate Programs for Arts and Science), which was approved by the State Education Commission. The series consists of five types of textbooks: intensive reading, extensive reading, listening, fast reading, and grammar and exercises. The trial edition was published in 1986, and the official edition was published in 1992. This book highlights the following points:
1. The skill training shifts from single-skill training in volumes 1 to 4 to comprehensive skill training, emphasizing listening training at the discourse level.
2. The themes have been significantly revised, moving beyond daily life to include more content related to language learning, social issues, and popular science knowledge, with a focus on short passages as the primary genre.
3. The development of speaking skills is strengthened. While ensuring students receive sufficient listening training, each lesson includes appropriate speaking exercises to gradually improve their oral proficiency.
4. The recordings incorporate some authentic materials, enhancing the difficulty and authenticity of the language.
