Features: Zhu Yunming, one of the "Four Wits of Wu" in the Ming Dynasty, was renowned alongside Tang Yin, Wen Zhengming, and Xu Zhenqing. He styled himself Xizhe and was known as Zhishan, originally from Changzhou (now Wuxian County, Jiangsu). Due to his shared experiences and similar dispositions with Tang Yin (styled Bohu), numerous anecdotes about their friendship have been passed down in folklore.
With a scholarly background, Zhu Yunming excelled in poetry and prose as well as calligraphy. His surviving works reveal profound traditional craftsmanship. His small regular script was influenced by Zhong Yao and Wang Xizhi, characterized by meticulousness, elegance, and steady brushwork. His cursive script drew inspiration from Huai Su and Huang Tingjian, and his later cursive works were even more celebrated for their powerful, unrestrained, and graceful brush movements, highly regarded by contemporaries.
Zhu Yunming was a generous and cheerful person, and his unrestrained demeanor was reflected in his "" (unbridled cursive script). Although occasional mistakes mar his works, they are still expressive, dynamic, and full of vitality, making him a calligrapher worthy of study by later generations. This book is a selection of calligraphic works by renowned masters throughout history.
