Features: Mental health education is the education that enhances the psychological quality of primary and secondary school students. Good psychological quality is an important component of students' comprehensive quality. Primary and secondary school students are in a critical period of physical and mental development. As their physiology, psychology, social experience, and ways of thinking develop and change, they will face various psychological confusions and social pressures in areas such as learning, life, interpersonal relationships, college entrance exams, employment, and self-awareness. Conducting mental health education is necessary to uphold the scientific outlook on development with people at the center, promote the comprehensive development of primary and secondary school students, and build a modern moral education system that enhances the scientific nature and effectiveness of moral education. Mental health education in primary and secondary schools is a fundamental project for cultivating innovative talents in the 21st century.
In early 2001, the Education Department of Guangdong Province established the "Guangdong Provincial Guidance Committee for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools" and established the "Guangdong Provincial Guidance Center for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools." The Education Department entrusted the Department of Psychology at South China Normal University to take on the task of providing professional guidance for mental health education in primary and secondary schools across the province, establishing a working mechanism that combines the leadership of educational administrative departments with expert guidance to promote mental health education in primary and secondary schools.
Over the past three years, under the guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Guidance Committee for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools and the Ideological and Political Education Office of the Guangdong Provincial Education Department, the Guangdong Provincial Guidance Center for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools has carried out a series of activities in primary and secondary schools across the province, including teacher training for mental health education, the establishment and review of research projects, the evaluation of research papers, the collection and awarding of lesson plans, the collection and awarding of case analysis, the selection of model schools, educational guidance, and work exchanges. These efforts have effectively promoted the development of mental health education in primary and secondary schools across the province and achieved certain results.
Over the past three years, schools across the province have actively explored mental health education and provided valuable experiences and practices for reference. To guide the scientific and standardized development of mental health education in primary and secondary schools in our province, the Guangdong Provincial Guidance Center for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools has organized the publication of the "Guidance Series for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools" on the basis of the provincial-level research paper awards, lesson plan collection and awards, case analysis collection and awards, and individual case analysis collection and awards.
The publication of the "Guidance Series for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools" is the crystallization of the hard work of primary and secondary school teachers in mental health education over the past three years. It is a compilation of teaching achievements and experiences in mental health education in primary and secondary schools in our province, representing the elevation and fruit of research in the cultivation of the soul, teaching students, and the practice of quality education.
Although the publication of the "Guidance Series for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools" was somewhat rushed and its content may not be entirely satisfactory, it provides an entry-level guide and educational reference materials for teachers engaged in mental health education in primary and secondary schools, with profound inspirational significance. It also provides a platform for teachers to learn from and communicate with each other, playing a positive role in promoting the in-depth development of mental health education and its teaching research across the province. This will help mental health education transition from experience-based teaching to following established principles, ultimately moving toward scientific and standardized development.
The publication of the "Guidance Series for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools" has been greatly supported by primary and secondary school teachers and principals across the province, leaders of various levels of educational administrative departments, and experts from the Department of Psychology at South China Normal University. Here, I extend congratulations on the publication of the "Guidance Series for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools," and pay the highest respect to the primary and secondary school teachers working in the field of mental health education!
