Features: For most Chinese people, their understanding of the South Korean military is primarily limited to its long-standing hostile relationship with North Korea, its substantial military forces, and the presence of U.S. troops on its soil. However, how strong these forces are, their organizational structure, equipment status, the wars they have participated in, and the nature of the military relationship between South Korea and the U.S. are likely known by and concerned about by relatively few people, and there is little information available on these aspects. This is mainly because the South Korean military has long maintained strict confidentiality measures, resulting in low transparency. Currently, reports on the South Korean military in China are mostly focused on adjustments in its military strategy and the development of its weaponry, while introductions to its systemic aspects remain scarce, making it difficult for people to gain a comprehensive understanding of the South Korean military. This book aims to address this gap, providing readers with a comprehensive window into the South Korean military. The book references a large number of books and detailed materials on the South Korean military, many of which are first-time revelations of photographs and illustrations from on-the-ground interviews. It represents a rare attempt in China to present a full picture of the South Korean military's history, current status, and future development. The book is generally divided into several major parts: South Korean Defense, the Combat Readiness Systems and Weaponry of the South Korean Armed Forces, the South Korean Defense Industry System, U.S. Troops in South Korea, and the History of the South Korean Military's Participation in Wars. The South Korean Defense section primarily introduces South Korea's strategic position, the defense system of the South Korean military, the history of its military development, and the relationship between the military and politics. The Combat Readiness Systems and Weaponry of the South Korean Armed Forces section primarily introduces the ground, naval, and air forces of the South Korean military, including their troop strength, command systems, combat capabilities, weapon performance, and development trends. It also provides detailed comparative analyses with the armed forces of neighboring countries to help readers better understand the true strength of the South Korean military. The South Korean Defense Industry System section mainly introduces the organization, management, key research and production units, production capacity, and development trends of South Korean defense industries. The U.S. Troops in South Korea section primarily introduces the composition, weaponry, combat capabilities, operational concepts, and history of U.S. troops stationed in South Korea, as well as a detailed analysis of the current strategic adjustments being prepared by U.S. forces in South Korea. The History of the South Korean Military's Participation in Wars section primarily introduces the wars in which the South Korean military has participated since its establishment, including the well-known role of the South Korean military in the Korean War and the lesser-known participation of the South Korean military in the Vietnam War. In the "South Korean Military in the Korean War" chapter, the author focuses on analyzing the actual performance of the South Korean military during the Korean War and some of the underlying reasons. In the "South Korean Military's Journey in the Vietnam War" chapter, the background, troop participation, and actual combat performance of the South Korean military are introduced, revealing for the first time the full process of the South Korean military's involvement in the Vietnam War.
