Features: The community is a microcosm of society. The community is the cell of the city, and the cornerstone of governance. We present a series of books that reflect the development model of Chinese communities. This is a set of empirical analysis and typical examples centered on the community development of Chaoyang District, Beijing. The community can also be described as an alternative expression of urban civilization. The community can be seen as a story, a diagram reflecting social relationships, a space where the whole is dispersed yet coexists, a materialized domain, a spiritual homeland, or a field filled with contradictions. These metaphors contain numerous connotations: historical continuity, cultural inheritance, changes in norms, and human value orientations. These cultural symbols and symbolic meanings will all be expressed through the community model.
After the per capita GDP breaks the $1,000 mark, China's economic structure undergoes significant changes, consumption patterns rapidly upgrade, social structures become increasingly complex, and the strategic importance of community development becomes more prominent. China is entering a new era of comprehensive urban construction and community development. Learning-oriented communities, service-oriented communities, culture-oriented communities, eco-oriented communities, digital-oriented communities, and safety-oriented communities will inevitably become the development models of this era.
This series consists of six volumes. Each volume includes basic concepts, creation models, and the practical creation of Chaoyang District in Beijing. It is not only a combination of theory and practice but also a unity of norms and empirical evidence. In each model, we strive to present concise language, clear perspectives, vivid examples, and actionable work plans. Additionally, we have used many photographs, charts, and sidebars from the development history of Chaoyang District, providing another perspective to better understand the viewpoints expressed in the book.
Our sole purpose is to present to you a set of books that are both useful and visually appealing. The 21st century is the century of cities. To care about cities is to care about our future. Let us start by focusing on the community.
