Crime and Punishment is written by Dostoevsky (Fyodor Dostoevsky), a Russian writer born in 1826 and died in 1881. Rodion Raskolnikov is a poor student in St. Petersburg. He meticulously plans a crime: he kills an old widow and her step-sister, who ran a pawn shop, with an axe and steals some jewelry from their apartment. During his conversation with Porfiry, who is investigating the murder, Raskolnikov defends himself, elaborating on his theory: a genius can achieve their goals by any means, and he believes himself to be a genius. Svidrigailov arrives in St. Petersburg. When Dunya was employed as a tutor by him, she suffered greatly. Raskolnikov is filled with pain. He goes to the police station. Raskolnikov turns himself in to the police and is sentenced to eight years of hard labor in Siberia. Dunya and Razumikhin successfully run a publishing business and get married. Sonya follows Raskolnikov to Siberia and lives in a village near the exile camp. Due to her kindness to Raskolnikov and other prisoners, everyone calls her Sonya, the little mother. With her help, Raskolnikov begins a new life.
