The entire volume was reviewed and approved by Chief Editor Li Xin, and the name index was compiled by Cheng Chaoyun. This volume is the last in the series of The History of the Republic of China. It primarily narrates the final collapse of the Nationalist Party regime in the Republic of China. The establishment of the People's Republic of China marked the transition between the old and new regimes. From October 1, 1949, the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China became the sole legitimate government representing China. The historical period covered in this volume mainly spans from July 1947 to September 1949, with the final chapter detailing the founding of the People's Republic of China, as well as the mainland defeat and final withdrawal of Chiang Kai-shek and the remnants of the Nationalist forces, to provide a complete and comprehensive understanding of this era.
