Bach French Suite

Author: Bach
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2002-01-01
Features: The six piano suites in this volume were composed during the time when the composer served as the Kapellmeister at the court of Prince Leopold in C?then-Anhalt. Bach referred to them by the elegant term "Clavierbüchlein" (Harpsichord Booklet) as was customary at the time, while the title "French Suites" was added later. This might be because, in comparison to the larger-scale "English Suites," the "French Suites" exhibit a refined and dance-like treatment. The term "suite" in that era referred to a set of dances composed in the same key, often based on related thematic material.
