Features: Christian mysticism has a long history. It has both advanced the establishment and spread of Christianity and fueled social religious movements that opposed the religious authority of the Roman Church. "Religion has no independent history detached from the history of society." Similarly, mysticism also lacks an independent history separate from social history.
