Features: Since the 20th century, the development of basic and clinical research on diabetes has been remarkable. Significant progress has been made in understanding the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of acute and chronic complications of diabetes. The global prevalence of diabetes is continuously increasing, particularly with the improvement of living standards and the Westernization of lifestyles. In China, the increasing life expectancy and the growing population of elderly individuals have led to a rising incidence of diabetes, especially type 2 diabetes. Given China's large population, the total number of diabetes patients ranks among the highest globally. Currently, diabetes has become the third major non-communicable disease threatening human health, following malignant tumors and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, preventing diabetes in susceptible populations, early diagnosis and timely, appropriate treatment for diabetes patients, and the management of chronic complications and comorbidities have become challenging tasks for clinical and basic researchers. Professor Jiang Guoyan (1924–1996) (Editor-in-Chief) published the "Practical Diabetes Medicine" in 1992, which was compiled by relevant personnel based on Professor Jiang Guoyan's decades of research in diabetes. To date, the book has been printed five times and distributed over 20,000 copies, reflecting the demand from society. With the advancement of medical science, it is necessary to integrate new knowledge about diabetes with clinical practice and summarize it. This is the purpose of our new edition of "Practical Diabetes Medicine." The revised "Practical Diabetes Medicine" is designed from a practical perspective, with modifications and adjustments to the content. The structure has been expanded from 7 parts and 50 chapters to 10 parts and 58 chapters, with some chapters removed and new, more recent, and practical chapters added to be presented to.
