Features: Although Xu Chao doesn’t write much poetry, the language in his novels carries a strong poetic temperament. What’s rare is that he doesn’t squander this temperament in self-indulgent monologues but diligently tells story after story. Perhaps this is related to his passion for studying film. Thinking about this, I truly look forward to the day when I see his "novels brought to the screen." However, the progress of art in this world is difficult, and until that day comes, we can only satisfy ourselves with reading his "written films." Xu Chao’s writing has always been seasoned and brisk. As you read on, you can’t help but immerse yourself in that carefree lifestyle, yet at every moment, it brings an inexplicable restlessness and panic. That is the understanding and respect for life. Xu Chao’s writing carries a sense of leaping, with tenderness that holds the tough temperament of a Beijing man. One Man’s Beijing is a book worth reading. He also has deep feelings for Beijing, drifting like a speck of sand in the city. He deeply loves this city not just because he grew up here but also because it shattered his ideals. His love, his passion, everything is trapped here, unable to escape. One Man’s Beijing is less a work of fiction than a collection of painful memories that cannot be forgotten in the author’s heart. These wounds have made Xu Chao believe in the power of hatred. There’s a line in the book that says particularly well: "You must know that beauty and love are but a moment. To protect them, you must end them—that is the beauty of memories. You must understand that nothing in this world can withstand the test of time! Love and joy are not meant to be tested." I think this is what the author has realized, and it is the essence of this book. Xu Chao, with his bold and individualistic personality, pours his emotions—some realistic, some romantic—into his works more freely. Like an artwork brimming with passion. His depth carries a wildness, like a hunting doging the city streets, capturing inspiration in the corners. In his maturity, there are moments of simplicity, like a child laughing aloud in a field full of flowers. And for him, these flowers are—love.
