Features: The early 20th century was undoubtedly the most brilliant and dazzling era in the history of Chinese art. The coexistence of a diverse group of painters and painting schools became the mainstream of art during this period. In regions with convenient coastal transportation and frequent cultural exchanges, such as the East China region centered around Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou, the North China region centered around Beijing and Tianjin, and the South China region centered around Guangzhou and Hong Kong, not only did they lead in economic and cultural development but also produced a succession of renowned painters and flourishing schools. The Shanghai School, the Jingjin School, and the Lingnan School, formed by these respective groups of painters, created a tripartite balance in the art world during the early Republican era. This book is a pictorial album primarily focused on introducing painting works, divided into four parts.
1. Introduction, discussing painting schools and general national;
2. Plate of Works (arranged by the birth year of painters, with the Shanghai School arranged by the time painters arrived in Shanghai);
3. Chronological Table of Major Events;
4. Biographies of Painters. Among them, the selection of painters focuses on those who had a certain influence between 1900 and 1949 and the main members of influential painting schools, with less influential painters omitted. The works of painters are preferably selected from those created before 1949. For the Jingjin School, the selection of works by Huang Binhong and Chen Shizeng strives to align the time spent living in Beijing with the time of creation.
