Publishing Date: 2004-01-01
Features: The New Chinese-English Medical Dictionary is a sister volume to the New English-Chinese Medical Dictionary. The book contains over 65,000 entries, covering common and new terms in all disciplines of medicine and related fields. For Traditional Chinese Medicine, only common TCM terminology is included in the appendix. Currently, no compact Chinese-English medical dictionary has been published in China. The compilation and publication of this book fill a gap in Chinese-English medical reference materials in our country and provide convenience for medical professionals, medical students, and medical translators in looking up English translations of Chinese medical terms. The book has the following main features:
1. Small size, large vocabulary: The dictionary's word count exceeds that of some large and medium-sized dictionaries, but its size is only a quarter or a third of that of a large dictionary, making it easy to carry and consult.
2. Careful selection, accurate definitions: The entries included are approved by the National Terminology Review Committee, common terms in various medical disciplines, and new terms and vocabulary emerging with the rapid development of medical science and technology. English definitions are referenced from the authoritative American medical dictionary Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary, striving for accuracy and standardization. All multiple meanings of each term are clearly noted.
3. Innovative design, simple format: The design of the dictionary's format follows the principle of addressing the problems medical professionals encounter when consulting Chinese-English medical dictionaries and ensuring ease of use. The format is kept as simple and clear as possible. Each term is listed separately and arranged in pinyin order. Entries with multiple English definitions are listed consecutively after the term, separated by commas. The compilers of this dictionary are professors, associate professors, and graduate students who have long been engaged in teaching and research in medical English. Through careful design, selection, writing, and arrangement, they have provided readers with a practical reference book that is large in capacity, up-to-date in vocabulary, and accurate in definitions.
