"The Great Series of Exquisite Cultural Relics of Beijing" consists of 17 volumes, including Stone Carvings, Stone Inscriptions, Ceramics (Volume 1 and 2), Jade Objects, Bronze Objects, Ancient Bells, Buddhist Sculptures (Volume 1 and 2), Gold and Silver Wares, Calligraphy, Paintings, Ancient Fine Books, Textiles and Embroidery, Furniture, Handicrafts (Volume 1 and 2), etc. Many of these cultural relics not only have high artistic value but also significant historical and academic value. The publishers strive to use this large-scale illustrated catalog to allow people not only to appreciate and enjoy the exquisite art treasures but also to deeply feel a sense of historical responsibility, to protect and promote Beijing's cultural heritage, and to write more magnificent chapters for Beijing culture in the new era.
1. This volume is divided into three parts: Tang to Yuan, Ming, and Qing, with a total of 178 fine paintings from the Tang to Qing dynasties.
2. This volume includes an introduction titled "Seven Centuries of Paintings in the Ancient Capital—Beijing's Painting Scene in the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties" and a special essay titled "The Art of Wang Yuanqi and Its Influence on the Qing Dynasty Painting Scene," as well as an appendix with explanations of the illustrations.
3. The book is generally arranged in chronological order based on the authors' lifetimes. Those whose birth and death dates are unknown but whose lifetimes are known are roughly placed according to their lifetimes. Those whose lives are unknown and anonymous works are roughly arranged according to the time of the paintings or the style of the era. The dynastic affiliation of painters from the Ming and Qing transition period follows convention, without strict adherence to birth order.
